INFORMATION CONCERNING SHASTA COUNTY

Shasta County is located in the extreme northern end of the Sacramento Valley, equal distance between Los Angeles and Seattle on Interstate 5.  It is 160 miles north of Sacramento and 230 miles north of San Francisco.  There are three incorporated cities in Shasta County;  Redding, the county seat, Anderson and the City of Shasta Lake.  Redding, bisected by the Sacramento River, is a growing center of commerce & industry and the nationally recognized metropolitan marketplace of northern California, serving the adjacent counties of Tehama, Trinity and Siskiyou.

Shasta Lake has over 360 miles of shoreline where thousands come annually to enjoy many different watersport activities like fishing, swimming, skiing & boating as well as camping, hiking & picnicking.   Many annually vacation here on the houseboats that are available year round.

Mount Shasta is over 14,000 feet elevation and skiiers and mountain climbers alike enjoy her pristine beauty.  Many Redding residents are also lucky enough to view the beauty year round from their homes.

Shasta Dam is a masterpiece in concrete engineering and generates power year round from the turbines.  The water it holds provides millions of people with drinking water as well as farms for crops

There is much
beauty surrounding Redding.  Whiskeytown Lake is an excellent place to fish, swim, ski, hike or just relax and listen to the birds sing and watch the clouds float by.

John F. Kennedy came to Shasta County in the early part of 1962 to dedicate the lake and dam.
